About Washington County Habitat For Humanity
Washington County HfH is a non-profit association dedicated to reaching out to people in need of basic, low-cost housing in the Washington County, Ohio area. We serve all of Washington County, which is part of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Geographically, we serve the largest county in the state of Ohio. The needs in this area, which is also part of the Appalachian Region, are great and the resources limited.
WCHfH works in partnership with people in need and area volunteers to build decent, affordable housing, which we sell to those in need at no profit and charge no interest for a twenty-year loan. We are able to do this by having volunteers provide most of the labor and working with local corporations, churches, and individual donors who provide money and materials to build the houses. The partner family (the to-be homeowner) spends hundreds of hours working, called "sweat equity", on their house and the houses of others. The mortgage payments go into a fund which is used to build more houses.
We are a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.
